The Unfinished Window - Immanuel Lutheran Church - Clay, NY

The Unfinished Window

There is a plain window with a keystone arch in the tower room, east of the “dove” window. It was to be the Mrs. Lambert Weller Window.

The window design would have included: a lamb, symbol of Christ, sky, symbol of heaven, a tree, symbol of charity, a cup, symbol of Holy Communion, a field, symbol of a garden of life.

In the winter of 1915-16, a family was left destitute by a house fire. Money was taken from the Weller fund and given to this family in need. Also, money was removed to buy coal to heat the church. Thus, the Weller window remained unfinished.

The Weller family provided the land for this Church and parsonage. Eventually, Cora Weller Driscoll willed the property to Immanuel which has been converted into a parking area. Throughout the years, many descendants have given money, time, energy, and talents to support the needs of Immanuel.
