Our food pantry is one of the great community involvement programs we have at Immanuel. History tells us it began downstairs in a closet when Pastor Herrick was here in the late 1970s. Later, as it expanded, it was moved upstairs into the educational wing. Then, as it grew even more, it was relocated downstairs to the end of the educational wing.

Kathy Ferguson (Van Eaten) was instrumental in increasing the number of clients who used the Food Pantry. In 2010, Bob Crabtree became the facilitator. Dick Suspensky built some sturdier shelves, so even more nonperishable foods could be made available. As the years went on, more personal health items, such as toilet paper, deodorant, shampoo, and soap, were added. Most recently, in 2022, diapers and baby food were added.

Today, the Immanuel Lutheran Food Pantry helps over 200 families a year. Our food pantry is open three days a week for one hour per day. For the last three years, we have also been delivering to needy families who are unable to visit our pantry. Our newest addition is the Immanuel Lutheran Community Cupboard, built by OCM BOCES welders and construction students. It is located outside the food pantry window facing Route 31 so people can drive up and take or leave needed items.
